Alewijnse Retec Romania has been awarded, on January 7th 2011, by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in the Netherlands, with a major order for the installation of the electrical systems on the Joint Logistic Support Ship (JSS) for the Royal Netherlands Navy. This order gives a proud feeling as it represents also recognition of the professionalism and capabilities shown by our company in previous projects for the same Client. |
This is the largest single contract ever undertaken by Alewijnse and will involve the commitment of the company for the next four years. The scope of supply consists of the installation of the ship-wide electrical systems including command and control, environmental systems, power distribution and monitoring. Retec will play a full role in the ‘Integral Approach’ system by which the project will be managed, ensuring that the yard and sub-contractors work in the most coordinated and efficient manner possible.
To be finalized in 2014, the JSS - measuring 205 m long with 30 m beam, and a total displacement of 28,000 dwt – will be the largest ship ever to serve in the Royal Netherlands Navy. It is being designed to act as a robust, multi-functional platform capable of replenishing other ships at sea, acting as a mobile base for transport helicopters moving personnel and heavy equipment, and of playing a major role in humanitarian and disaster relief operations. The vessel is designed to carry 175 crew and up to 125 additional personnel.
The JSS will be built at Damen Galati, Romania, before being towed to the Netherlands for the outfitting of special systems, and final commissioning and completion.
